Michael D. Davis-Thomas is a nationally recognized advocate, scholar, author, and changemaker whose life and leadership are rooted in lived experience, faith, and service. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Michael spent over eleven years navigating both the foster care and juvenile justice systems—experiences that shaped his deep understanding of systemic inequity and resilience. Today, he is the CEO and Founder of MDDTSpeaks Holdings, Inc., a multifaceted company dedicated to systems change across child welfare, juvenile justice, education, and public policy. He also serves as the Chair of the Michigan Juvenile Justice Advisory Council (JJAC) and as a Council Member of NACC’s National Advisory Council on Children’s Legal Representation (NACCLR).
A celebrated speaker and policy contributor, Michael has collaborated with the U.S. Children’s Bureau, OJJDP, and ACF, influencing legislation and national reform efforts. He is also the award-winning host of the Resilient Voices & Beyond Podcast, now nearing 200 episodes of amplifying lived-experience narratives. Michael’s leadership has earned him national honors including the 2025 Spirit of Youth Award from the Coalition for Juvenile Justice and recognition in Shoutout LA Magazine, Bold Journey Magazine, and the Black Former Foster Youth Hall of Fame. Guided by faith and purpose, he continues to transform adversity into advocacy—building bridges between experience, expertise, and hope.
