The Children’s Justice Fund brings together children’s law offices from across the nation to fuel protection of the rights and wellbeing of children experiencing the child welfare system.
DENVER—Amid critical threats to the wellbeing of children and an ongoing access to justice crisis for young people in foster care, the National Association of Counsel for Children today revitalized the Children’s Justice Fund Giving Catalogue, a collaboration with children’s law offices across the nation to fuel access to justice for kids in foster care.
The Children’s Justice Fund, which is now in its second year, is a groundbreaking initiative to strengthen the child welfare legal advocacy community’s ability to stand up for and uplift the futures of children despite ongoing infringement on their rights and headwinds for programs that support family wellbeing.
This partnership is an opportunity to provide resources locally and nationally—in a country where 13 states still do not guarantee a lawyer to approximately 56,000 children. All participating organizations help children experiencing the foster care system through legal representation, training, or legislative advocacy.
“Now more than ever, we are standing together to advance children’s rights,” said Kim Dvorchak, CEO of the National Association of Counsel for Children. “We’re working toward a more just and fair world—a strong, unified, movement for kids and families.”
“Every day, we see how essential it is for children and young people to have dedicated, independent advocates protecting their rights and ensuring their voices are heard. Through our partnership with NACC and children’s law offices nationwide, we are helping to reimagine justice for young people by advancing a shared vision that centers dignity, opportunity, and meaningful access to support,” said Dawne Mitchell, Attorney-in-Charge of the Juvenile Rights Practice at The Legal Aid Society. “Together, we can help create a system where young people are recognized as rights holders, their voices shape the decisions that affect them, and they have a meaningful opportunity to succeed.”
“LCYC is pleased to participate in NACC’s Giving Catalogue due to our shared commitment to advance the rights of youth in the child welfare system,” said Rhea Yo, Executive Director, Legal Counsel for Youth and Children. “We appreciate the opportunity to be highlighted amongst other best-in-class youth legal aid providers across the country and collectively raise funds to support our shared child welfare advocacy.”
