A Dynamic Duo: Leveraging the Power of Children’s Attorneys and CASA/GAL Volunteers to Advance Children’s Legal Rights and Interests

Judge Maurice Portley (Ret.) (top left) joined Casey Family Programs in January 2017, after serving for 25 years as a trial and appellate judge in Phoenix, Maricopa County, AZ. Judge Portley is the Senior Director of the Judicial & National Engagement team of Casey Family Programs and works with the Casey Strategic Consultants and other Casey units to help make system improvements to the child protective system in a county or state, especially around the legal system to help children, families and community.
Kimberly Force (top right) has served as a CASA volunteer in Gwinnett County, Georgia since 2018. In 2023 she was recognized as the Karen N. Sibley CASA Volunteer of the Year for Georgia. Kim is employed at Cisco Systems, Inc. in the Atlanta area, where she works on Intellectual Property Patent litigation.
Claire Terrebonne (bottom left) is the Vice President of Program Operations at Jackson County CASA in Kansas City, Missouri. A unique CASA program, Jackson County CASA’s attorney guardians ad litem, along with the help of over 300 volunteer advocates, represent over 1,100 children per year in the Kansas City metro area.
Rebecca May-Ricks, JD, CWLS (bottom right), is the Director of the Louisiana Mental Health Advocacy Service and Child Advocacy Program, and she serves as the NACC State Coordinator for Louisiana.
